darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc opened the door for her and walked alongside Wynonna as they entered. She told him he could pick the table and he smiled as he found a fitting one . . . had it had chairs instead of a booth, then he would have pulled it out for her. Instead, he just sat across from her as she asked him what a date looked like back then. "Well now let's see," he said thinking back to it.
"The man would pick up the lady from her home. Sometimes with the blessin' of the parent." Depended on the family really. Whether they had any, whether they were protective of them, and so on. "Most places were walkin' distance, but if not, we'd ride there," He paused. "On a horse," he clarified. "Or if it's real fancy, a carriage." There were some dates worth that effort. "We'd have a nice meal. Nice drink. I'd walk her home . . . and see where the night takes us." Things were a bit different back then when it came to what was deemed scandalous. But that did not often stop Doc from wooing a woman, even if she was married. "What was your first date like?" He asked, wondering how she started off this whole, dating thing. Which, was more common now compared to before.

That didn't sound like a lot had changed. Well, tender might have changed it some but not much. Swipe right, meet at a bar, hook up, decide if you want dinner. Maybe a lot had changed. Though Waverly might say that it's not. She was more of the romantic, and Wynonna was more practical. It didn't often mess well. Which made her wonder--Doc was more of the romantic too. Could she do romance? Could she make him happy beyond this chase that he did? Doubt started to creep in.
"Oh I've actively avoided dating." She joked, "More of a stranger in the night type." Until Doc. Until she came back here and found something she enjoyed more then just faceless nights. "So I guess, this is my real first date."
"I've done dinner with guys but never . . . planned beyond that." Until now. Running her hand in her hair she fidgeted, feeling nervous. While she had tried to hide it from Doc she knew he could read her better then most.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc listened as she said she avoided dating. That much made sense, considering the whole no strings attached mindset. And hell, he wasn't even going to pressure her now. All he had wanted, was some indication that they could go somewhere. The physical was the easy part; the emotional was where it got difficult. And made her noticeably uncomfortable. Or well, perhaps noticeable to him. If this was her first real date, he wanted her to enjoy it. Not feel, discomfort.
"Well then, I am faced with a tremendous amount of pressure to ensure that this is a very good first date." There was playfulness in his voice, knowing that she must be feeling pressure more than him considering she did not do this often, but he was playfully taking on that burden to help ease her mind. Besides, he felt rather . . . honoured that she took this step with him. That she asked him on a date and stepped outside of what she was used to. For him. For them. "Would you like to order a drink?" He offered. Maybe that would help a little. "I promise I am not trying to get you drunk this evening," he added on teasingly.

This was why she liked Doc. She could face the dark things. She could wade into the swampy waters of killing things. She didn't need Doll's fire for the job. Jeremy's passion for for the mystery. She had these things in herself. What she lacked was the sunrise. The feeling that there was in deed a light at the end of the tunnel. Something to hope for. Something to work toward beyond killing things.
Wynonna smiled as his words gave her some ease, and nodded. "It might be better if you tried." A joke, and this time it was clear in her vice that this was a joke. When the waitress came over Wynonna decided they should be adults! "A glass of wine please," This was a fancy date, she was going to be a fancy person! She also ordered her food, and let Doc order his.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE He smiled at her response, ordering himself a glass of wine to endure the less than preferred beverage with her and then put in his own order of food, passing the menu to the server and giving thanks. Once she left, it was the two of them again. "I think the last time I drank red wine was with your great great grandpappy," he said with a fond smile.
"Completely different circumstances of course," he clarified, keeping the mood light. "It has been a while," he thought out loud, but he remembered it perfectly. "We were invited out to dinner by the governor of the town after apprehending a fugitive." Fortunately, it was not one of the Revenenats. A safe topic he supposed. "Wyatt kept holding back laughter as he saw my face every time I took a sip of the drink . . . until it started to grow on me." He had been of a, higher standing in town with his occupation but he had never been one for red wine. Whiskey was his preferred choice.

Wynonna chuckled when he said pappy. He did sound like an old western sometimes but she loved how he embraced it. She tried to imagine what it was like back then--and she really only had to a little bit. Her ghost walk thing that taken her back there. Still, it was one thing to walk around and see key events, and another to live it. To be from there.
"Would you go back there? If you could." Would he go back to his time, if that was possible. She wasn't afraid of the answer, because she knew it was meanly a question of setting and people. He couldn't really go back there. Wynonna was curious though if he had enjoyed living back then better or worst then living here.
IF a way ever came up that he could go back--THEN she'd be nervous. However, right now she was only curious.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Would he go back there if he good. The answer, was a difficult one. It was no easy answer. It wasn't black and white. It wasn't a yes or no. He remained silent for a few moments, thinking of what he had done to leave that time. And the people he had hurt along the way. "I regret some decisions I made to pull me from it." Betraying Wyatt. Making a deal with the devil. He looked at her once more, his eyes having moved from the space in front of him, to meet her gaze.
"But I do not regret where it has brought me." To this life, to her. To having a daughter. To Waverly. To the people he now helped. So it was a double edged sword, and he knew he hadn't directly answered the question. He'd feared death then, and he feared it now. That much hadn't changed, and his fate in hell proved that he hadn't become a better man from it. But preventing the conversation from going too deep, he averted it's direction. "What were your thoughts when you were there, think you could have handled living in such a time?" His voice was very clearly teasing her. "I reckon you might have hated it," he added on with a slight chuckle.

Wynonna liked his answer. That he was here and didn't regret it. Which was a lot since he'd had to do 100 years in solitude to get here. She wondered how things might be different if he had been here all along. If he had been fighting by the heir's side since the first time. Maybe he could have even helped the one year wonder finish this off before it got to her Daddy or her.
"I'm more of a running water, crack the A/C type of girl." She joked, "I like the mustangs I ride to have two wheels not four legs." However, "Though I can ride one with two legs alright." A dirty joke.
"It was different seeing you then. You were playing cards, and bossing Bobo around. Robert." She had ended up feeling sorry for him. "He was a good guy. Or was until the end." When he left Doc down there. "It was . . . hard too. I couldn't touch anyone or say anything to them. I wanted to give warning to so many people, but I couldn't. I stood there at the top of the well, and I couldn't help you. I knew it would be 100 years before I even could." Reaching out she offered her hand, palm up.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE It had taken Doc some time, but he was finally able to pick up on modern day jokes. Specifically, her jokes. Mostly the dirty ones. But he didn't interrupt as she went into detail about what it was like when she went back. What he was like. What Bobo Del Rey was like before he was . . . well, Bobo Del Rey. Doc gave her a reassuring smile, taking her hand as she held it out on the table and giving it a light squeeze. "You didn't have a choice," he told her.
"Your conscience can be clear knowing that." That she couldn't warn anyone or save anyone. Him on the other hand, could not say the same thing. He had pushed Bobo away -- twice -- and betrayed Wyatt. Things could have been so different but alas . . . some deeds were unforgivable. "And knowing that what matters, is that when you could, you did save others and help them. Warn them." In the present day; in her time. "Hell, I'd still be at the bottom of a well if it weren't for you." To think, what would have happened had she not thrown Peacemaker down it. He doubted Bobo would have mentioned his whereabouts. He seemed pretty keen on remaining quiet about it for as long as he did.

Wynonna knew that, but it still hadn't made it easy to stay there as Robert refused to help Doc over jealously with Wyatt. Knowing that Doc hated it down there. Hearing his panic, and knowing it would be 100 years before she even threw the gun down there. Much less before she came back to get it.
"Unknowingly." She hadn't set out to save him, only find the gun to kill the ones that killed her family. In the end, saving Waverly had made her want to stay and do this. Well, maybe not want, but end up staying and doing this. She never really wanted this life. Which was why she was so determined to end this curse.
There wine came, so Wynonna let him go to take her glass. Lifting it to her lips she took a gulp---and let it fall right back in the glass. Nope. Oh, yuck! BIG nope!! "I thought that would taste better." Pouring the wine in the plant that was on the side of the table she looked at him. "Please have your flask on you."

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE The conversation was brought to a halt when the severe came with the wine. Doc didn't need to do all this fancy stuff that they apparently did nowadays that involved smelling and swishing it. So the waiter just poured . . . and Wynonna spit.
He just stared at her as she dumped the rest of the it in the plant nearby and asked for his flask. "Never leave home without it," he told her, reaching for the inside pocket of his coat where he pulled it out and passed it to her. "Though this does not seem like the kind of place that allows you to bring your own liquor." Yes. That's right, he knew stuff. Being the owner of a bar required him to know stuff, and he'd been doing a fair amount of research.
