darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc listened as she said she avoided dating. That much made sense, considering the whole no strings attached mindset. And hell, he wasn't even going to pressure her now. All he had wanted, was some indication that they could go somewhere. The physical was the easy part; the emotional was where it got difficult. And made her noticeably uncomfortable. Or well, perhaps noticeable to him. If this was her first real date, he wanted her to enjoy it. Not feel, discomfort.
"Well then, I am faced with a tremendous amount of pressure to ensure that this is a very good first date." There was playfulness in his voice, knowing that she must be feeling pressure more than him considering she did not do this often, but he was playfully taking on that burden to help ease her mind. Besides, he felt rather . . . honoured that she took this step with him. That she asked him on a date and stepped outside of what she was used to. For him. For them. "Would you like to order a drink?" He offered. Maybe that would help a little. "I promise I am not trying to get you drunk this evening," he added on teasingly.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Her response to his inquiry as to where Peacemaker was gave some reassurance that she at least knew it's whereabouts. But the fact that it was not on the heir, was dangerous. It meant it could get in the hands of someone else, and there were a hell of a lot of people after it. He led her up to a common sitting room, figuring his bedroom might be a little too private.
"Well, it helps that I own the place," he revealed in response to her . . . what he presumed was a sarcastic question. Once they were inside, he closed the door behind her and eyed the drink. "You might wanna start taking a swig of that," he said almost teasingly. Taking a few steps away from her, he had his back to her. "I was not entirely forthright with my name. While it is, John . . . my full name is John Henry Holliday." He paused, taking off his hat and turning to face her. "But most people call me Doc."

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc opened the door for her and walked alongside Wynonna as they entered. She told him he could pick the table and he smiled as he found a fitting one . . . had it had chairs instead of a booth, then he would have pulled it out for her. Instead, he just sat across from her as she asked him what a date looked like back then. "Well now let's see," he said thinking back to it.
"The man would pick up the lady from her home. Sometimes with the blessin' of the parent." Depended on the family really. Whether they had any, whether they were protective of them, and so on. "Most places were walkin' distance, but if not, we'd ride there," He paused. "On a horse," he clarified. "Or if it's real fancy, a carriage." There were some dates worth that effort. "We'd have a nice meal. Nice drink. I'd walk her home . . . and see where the night takes us." Things were a bit different back then when it came to what was deemed scandalous. But that did not often stop Doc from wooing a woman, even if she was married. "What was your first date like?" He asked, wondering how she started off this whole, dating thing. Which, was more common now compared to before.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc let out a breath of amusement when she teased him about sex after food. This would certainly be a first for them. A planned evening together with a presumed ending. It was good. No guess work. No having to pretend. He had known for some time that she was the one for him and now with her starting to realize that too . . . made him beyond excited for what the future held between them. And her words, just further ignited that flame. "Well that works out mighty fine," he began to say.
"Because there is only one person I wish to kiss as well." Her. And it's always been here. "So then, let's do this right," he continued. Truth was, he could kiss her all night long but they were at the restaurant . . . and she had -- possibly -- been joking about car orgasms. "Let me buy you dinner," he added on, unable to resist placing another light kiss on her lips, feeling more encouraged than ever before . . . knowing that with each embrace, held more promise to the future. Rather than in the aftermath, being reminded of their friend status.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc saw the tears in her eyes, hearing the tone of her voice and he was quite glad when she hugged him because he knew that if she didn't . . . he would have. Their first actual hug of reunion. Unguarded in front of Alice. He closed his eyes, holding her close to him as he took in a slow breath. Her familiar scent. The familiar feel of her in his arms. Yes. This was what he had longed for, for so long. Every day for five years.
When she drew back enough to look at him, their faces touching, he raised a hand to brush away a few tears that had fallen from her eyes. "Me too," he told her. He was so happy to be home, with her. He wanted to ask so much, wanted to say so much, but he just let the silence linger. "Not a day went by where I did not think of you." Hell, not even a moment went by where he wasn't thinking of her. But he wanted to know that. That the distance he felt from her had been . . . agnozing. Eased only by their beloved daughter, and knowing that keeping her safe was the most important thing; and because, it was what Wynonna had asked him to do that very day, so many years ago.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc was quite enjoying her suggestive remarks, regretting only that they were just that: remarks. But surely they would bring action to it tonight. Before he could get anything out, she grabbed her boots and he went to finish getting ready, grabbing a shirt, jeans, gunbelt, boots and of course, his hat. By the time he joined them, all he heard was about being a dinosaur doctor, a smile on his lips as the suggestion of holding such an occupation. He supposed he could play along; talking about ancient folk being dinosaurs.
"That is true," he confirmed. "Your papa was a tooth doctor. I looked in dinosaurs' mouths to see if they had cavities." A job that was only temporary for far other thrilling things had caught his interest. And when he met Wyatt, everything shifted. "They were even smelly from time to time," he added on continuing to play along. "So I had to stop, and find something less stinky." Which led to gun slinging, gambling and everything beyond. "We ready to go?" He asked, wanting to make sure they had what they needed.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE What he wanted? What did she mean by that? It was a damn good thing that they had pulled into the lot of the restaurant because Doc wasn't sure he could focus on driving while having this conversation at the same time. He slightly adjusted himself so that he was turned towards her, listening to her explain about her mother and Julian. A man that her mother had truly loved apparently. The realization dawning on Wynonna . . . about them. That he might not always be there.
That he might not always be, available. Though he knew that he would always be . . . for her. Rosita or not. Kate or not. He knew where his heart truly lay. And that was when she said she wanted to try it, with him. The words made his heart swell with emotion, realizing now that this entire date . . . was an actual date. No ulterior motive, no attempt to woo him so that she could ask him for something. He suddenly felt guilty for thinking it was anything but that.
No. She wanted . . . to be with him. He knew this wasn't easy for her and he was not taking this lightly. He was merely, processing his words, realizing that in doing so, he was just staring at her. What could he say to truly express how much this meant to him? He couldn't. It seemed impossible. So instinct took over, and he just leaned towards her and kissed her, his hand resting on her cheek in a deep, kiss. His attempt to non verbally express how much this meant to him, where words often failed.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE She said she didn't live alone and Doc knew he should have expected as such. But. . . he also knew that surely, the other person wasn't here. That, was one thing he had not explained to Alice. The potential of another male figure in her life. It wasn't something he exactly wanted to think on. But when a dog emerged, Doc slightly chuckled at the sight of the excited dog. "Puppy!" Alice exclaimed excitedly, already starting to pet the animal. Hearing what Wynonna had named him caused him to smile as he looked at her.
"Hey! That's my papa's name," he said with amusement. "And a far better one than Plucky." Which was a dog he had in his childhood; a story he'd once told Wynonna. The canine seemed to ease the mood some, for Alice was quite excited about him. "OK!" She hurriedly followed the dog up the stairs, glad that at least for the moment, she was adjusting well to these new surroundings. With her upstairs, it gave Doc and Wynonna a moment and well, he knew there was a lot to talk about. Truth was, he didn't even know where to start. "You look good," he told her. Not meant to be flirtatious but more, stating that she looked strong -- as she always did. Healthy. That was important, considering he couldn't see it for himself for 5 years.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc watched as Alice excitedly ran out of the room and his attentions turned to his wife as she sat on top of them. "Surprisingly no," he said in answer to her question, his hands rested on her upper thighs. "Especially since I was so spent last night," he further teased, but the smile on his face made it clear that he had no complaints.
He kissed her back, breathing into it and knowing that it couldn't go much further than that, but how he did enjoy a taste of it. "And here I thought of letting you win today," he said jokingly, kissing her again. "But you make an enticing offer that I can't refuse." Once she was off of him, he watched her get dressed, enjoying the view from there too before he finally got himself out of bed, and went to dress in something comfortable for the day they had ahead of them.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE She had asked him out. She was flirting with him. And talking about having sex. He couldn't contain the curiosity any longer. He couldn't keep . . . having these thoughts that maybe there was more to this. His gut was telling him there wasn't, but he didn't want to sit through dinner and then get caught off guard like he had last time. Believing that they were meeting to talk about the baby, and instead, giving over his ring.
If there was another motive behind this he'd rather know it now. "Wynonna," He was trying to find a way to say it that wouldn't spoil this entire evening. "Please do not take this the wrong way, but I must inquire as to the reason you asked me to dinner." His voice was not accusatory, but rather, genuinely curious. "Is there something of import you would like to discuss?" Something she needed him to do? He would gladly do it. And yet, she was going through all this trouble.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Shooting. Ah yes, that was of course one of Doc's favourite things to do. Teaching his little girl the technique, even though she didn't have her own gun yet. There was so much more than just firing a bullet into the air. It took a hell of a lot more.
Besides, Doc never quite forwent a chance to show off in front of the two most important people in his life. "Shooting it is," he agreed, giving her the last bite of egg. "I'll even go easy on your mama," he said teasingly to Wynonna with a bit of an arrogant smirk. Lowering his head, he kissed Alice on the cheek a few times. "Thank you for this most wonderful surprise." A surprise that was indeed beyond wonderful. "I could not think of a better way to start the day." Than this moment.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE His eyes. As he thought earlier, fortunate that it was all she had gotten from him for her beauty surely came from her mother. Upon his suggestion, he could see the underlying panic in Wynonna -- most likely at the thought of being alone with their daughter. He would take that as a no, Waverly was not home. He nodded reassuringly as he watched Wynonna start to offer her hand, change her mind and then finally extend it.
He softly smiled, looking down at Alice as she slowly reached up to take Wynonna's hand too. There was hesitation, from both of them, but it made sense of course. "Papa says this is my home. My actual home." Doc had always wanted her to feel connected to Purgatory, even though he had no idea when they would return. He knew that they would, one day. He had faith in Wynonna that she would break the curse. "Will I have an actual room?" She may not understand the meaning of it but Doc couldn't help but smile. "Why don't you go on in and find out," he encouraged, waiting for Wynonn and Alice to go inside before he promptly followed, and closed the door behind them.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Doc gave a mock look of surprise at the mere suggestion of cleaning. Truth was, he didn't mind but he was just pretending that eating was all he was good for when it came to sharing the workload.
"That might cut into my eatin' time," he said jokingly. When Wynonna leaned into him, he moved his arms to that it was wrapped around her, enjoying the eggs and enjoying feeding his daughter some of them too. He had learned early on in his life that the world was not perfect, but these past few years sorely proved him wrong. And he was far too glad to admit just how wrong he was. "Now what would you like to do today?" He asked, already deciding to take the day off work so that he could spend it with his family.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE Sadly, the possibility of having to stab someone was not so far fetched. Especially with what they did on a daily basis. But, Doc did hope that tonight would be one night of peace for the both of them where they would not have to worry about such things.
He glanced at her hand for the brief moment it was upon him before putting his eyes back on the road. The next topic of conversation was rather, unexpected. "So you anticipate this going that well, then do you?" He teasingly. "And here I thought I was going to have to be a gentleman and just kiss you good night with a tip of my hat." He was still trying to figure out her angle. Surely, there was more to this date than dinner . . . and car sex, apparently. Poor Charlene. He wasn't sure she could take the vigour of their heated actions.

darlin' I'M EVERYBODY'S TYPE He watched the tears fall down her cheeks, and felt her hand upon him. He damn well knew this wasn't going to be easy and wish he had a better idea of what to do. How to help. Alice looked at Wynonna, giving a small nod as she held the bunny against her chest. "Papa says I look like you." Doc smiled proudly at that. "And I thank God she does, every day." An image of her mother. Even her personality was that of Wynonna's. Clearly, some personalty traits were genetic. When Wynonna reached up to hug him, Doc wrapped an arm around her, feeling Alice slowly let go of his hand so that he could wrap the other as well.
He closed his eyes, the feeling of holding her far better than the hundreds of times he'd imagined it. "I missed you too," he said in a quiet voice. Letting the moment linger, he regrettably lowered his arms looking at her once again. They had a lot to talk about. "Why don't you do go on inside, and I'll bring our things in." Perhaps it was presumptuous of him to assume his things be brought inside, but truth was, he hadn't been separated from Alice since he took her out of the Ghost River Triangle, and had no intention of starting now. "Is Waverly inside?" He asked. For he'd told Alice stories of not just her mother, but her aunt too. Though Doc longed to see her, he also knew it may be overwhelming for Alice . . . and truth was, Wynonna and Alice needed some time together alone first.
